- Push the federal and provincial governments to match funding for infrastructure and settlement services with population growth, so newcomers and long-time residents aren't competing for the same scarce housing and services
- Champion affordable and rental housing options, so young families and seniors on fixed incomes can actually stay in Ward 4
- Support smaller, more attainable housing types like garden suites and small multiplexes, so more homes fit on the lots we already have without losing the feel of the street
- Protect the character of established neighbourhoods during intensification, so new development fits the street instead of overwhelming it
- Push for faster, more predictable permit and approval timelines, so good projects aren't stalled by red tape
Transportation
Cracked roads, dangerous intersections, and unreliable transit aren't just inconveniences -- they're safety issues Ward 4 families deal with every single day.
- Prioritize repair in neighbourhoods that have waited years for basic road maintenance, so residents aren't driving on roads the city forgot
- Fix dangerous intersections with better signals, sightlines, and crosswalks, so kids and seniors can cross safely

About Ahmad
A neighbour who built his career solving the problems Ward 4 faces today
Ahmad Jawad Malik earned a Bachelor of Laws and spent years practicing law before coming to Canada in 1998. Rebuilding his career from the ground up in a new country, he made the leap into entrepreneurship -- starting small businesses from scratch and taking on the hands-on work of managing affordable rental housing himself. In 2018, he and his family put down roots in Ward 4, where they've lived ever since.
He didn't set out to run for office. But years of managing rental housing showed him exactly how hard it's become for young families and seniors to find a place they can afford. Years of running his own business showed him how much time and money gets lost to red tape that doesn't protect anyone. And years of raising his own kids in Ward 4 gave him a front-row seat to the roads, parks, and schools this ward depends on every day. He's running because that hands-on experience belongs at the council table -- not just good intentions.
Off the campaign trail, Ahmad organizes clothing drives and charitable initiatives at his own small businesses and has served on local boards and committees representing resident concerns. He's raising his children to believe that responsibility to your community isn't optional -- it's the job. That's the same standard he's holding himself to as a candidate: earn your trust through what he actually does, not what he promises.

Cambridge's housing shortage isn't a briefing note to Ahmad. As a small business owner, he manages affordable rental housing himself -- fielding maintenance calls, keeping units livable, and working to keep rent within reach for the families renting from him. That hands-on experience means he understands, first-hand, what actually drives housing costs up and what it really takes to keep housing affordable -- knowledge he'll bring to every housing vote on council.
Entrepreneurship
Ward 4's economy depends on people willing to risk their own money to build something here. Ahmad has done exactly that, building businesses from the ground up as a hands-on owner and creating local jobs in the process -- which means he's paid the real cost of permitting delays and red tape himself, not just heard about it secondhand.
Community Giving
Families across Ward 4 need warm clothing every winter, and not everyone has an easy way to get it. Rather than wait for a program to appear, Ahmad organizes recurring clothing drives and charitable initiatives at his own small businesses -- a direct, dependable form of support he runs himself, year after year. He's now working to build that same kind of direct support around food security, too -- partnering with local food banks and exploring what it would take to start one of his own or help fund the ones already doing this work.

Too many decisions get made without hearing from the people they actually affect. Ahmad has served on local boards and committees specifically to change that, bringing resident concerns directly into the room before decisions are finalized -- experience in governance and process he'll carry straight into council chambers.
A Decade of Public Speaking & Leadership
Long before running for office, Ahmad spent nearly a decade as a member of a Toastmasters club in Toronto, deliberately building the public speaking and leadership skills it takes to represent people well. That's not something he was born with -- it's a skill he worked at for years, the same practical, put-in-the-work approach he brings to everything else.
Legal Background
Municipal decisions live and die in contracts, bylaws, and fine print -- and getting the wording wrong costs taxpayers real money. Before coming to Canada, Ahmad earned a Bachelor of Laws and spent years practicing law -- training in careful reading and precise language he's relied on ever since, first in business and now in public service.

Council members should live with the consequences of their own votes. Ahmad has made Ward 4 home for his family since 2018, using the same roads, schools, and services as every other resident here -- which means every decision he makes is one he and his own children have to live with too.

I didn't learn how to solve problems in a classroom -- I learned it as a lawyer, as a small business owner, and managing affordable housing myself. Ward 4 doesn't need another politician promising change. It needs someone who has already spent his career making practical decisions that work, and is ready to bring that same approach to City Hall.
Safer neighbourhoods
No parent should have to think twice about letting their kids walk to school. I'll push for visible community policing and real alternatives to drugs and crime for young people, so Ward 4 feels safe after dark, not just during the day.
Housing families can afford
Growth should make Ward 4 more livable, not less affordable. I'll back responsible development that adds real housing options for families and seniors, without bulldozing the character that makes our streets worth living on.
A city hall that respects taxpayers
Every dollar the city spends is a dollar a Ward 4 family earned first. I'll demand transparent, plain-language budgets and push back on waste, so a tax increase is the last resort -- not the easy answer.
